About me and my practice
I am a qualified and experienced therapist who specialises in treatment for and recovery from addiction. I also have considerable experience as a front-line drugs and alcohol counsellor, having spent many years working within a residential rehabilitation clinic.
I am also an effective therapist and counsellor for anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family issues, trauma, and ADHD. lack of confidence, bereavement, social phobia, stress, compulsive and obsessive behaviours, OCD, life transitions, relationship issues and co-dependency.
Substance addiction and addictive behaviours include alcohol, drugs (illegal and prescription), gambling, work, relationships, exercise, sex, pornography, social media, OCD, gaming, shopping, food and eating, the list could go on, whatever it is you do more of than you would like to be doing and is causing you distress or problems in your life, I can offer help.
Addiction counselling involves treating the mind, body, and spirit. It is a holistic approach that can be directional, challenging, and instructive but can equally be empathic, relational, and compassionate. Firstly, I assist my clients to understand and hopefully accept their illness, before moving on to the effective treatment that is available to them. Then, if they genuinely desire to be free and can be open, honest, and willing to recover, there is a solution.
Addiction does not only affect the addict; it affects everyone close to them, and family support and guidance can be an essential part of the process. Along with ongoing support and guidance for the client, there is considerable recovery support available within the community if you know where to find it. Ongoing aftercare services can be designed to meet the individual client's needs.
There is a solution. You can be free of your addiction, and you can live a happy, joyous, and free life; you do not have to live this way anymore; there is a proven and tested way out.
Experience
Through my own recovery journey and personal life challenges I became involved in healing and recovery communities. This set me on a path that ultimately changed my life in ways I never would have thought possible. Through finding the right healing relationships, receiving support, and accepting the help available, I changed, and changed for the better. So today, I am working to help others find recovery for themselves.
I believe each person has their own inherent resources and potential for growth and change. A good counselling relationship can help to activate that potential through collaboration between the client and counsellor. I take a relational approach to my work, which means we may discuss what is happening in the relationship between us (client and counsellor) as this can often provide very valuable insights.

What To Expect
Every first counselling session is unique, but here are some ideas of what you can expect when we first meet.
My priority is to make you feel welcome and invite you to talk about what's going on in your life and what brings you to counselling. We're likely to discuss what you hope to achieve from counselling. I'll tell you a bit about how I work, and answer any questions you may have.
As part of my commitment to practising ethically, I'll need to evaluate whether I am suitable to work with you. You won't have to decide whether or not to proceed with counselling right away. I'll ask you to contact me once you've had time to reflect on the first session.
